Thesis: The Future of Mental Health
THESIS PROJECT
Can a psychedelic clinic exist within the Canadian Public Healthcare System? What is the role of designers in creating this future?
In 2019, I completed a thesis project that invited us to imagine the year 2025 — a future where psychedelic-assisted therapy is legally practiced and carefully regulated. This speculative design project envisioned a public mental healthcare system operating alongside the existing standard of care, with the goal of expanding access to psychedelic medicines, supporting informed patient choice, and fostering community.
The project also highlighted the critical role of designers in shaping this future: from planning patient journeys and developing packaging concepts to curating therapeutic environments. Creatives have the responsibility — and the opportunity — to help define new standards for an emerging field at the intersection of healthcare, policy, and design.
